Annie Leibovitz is an American born photographer, known for her portraiture of famous people. This exhibition showcased her work over fifteen years. It included many of her famous portrait shots, breathtaking landscapes, family memories,  sporting action and devastating crime. She works from small scale for her family memories, to enormous prints for her landscape to allow for the greatest appreciation. Several works were not perfected in the cropping, adding to the authenticity of her prints, the edges revealed her developing process and framed the image.

Annies' renowned portraits of the likes of Nicole KidmanJim CarreyA2D2Cindy Sherman, Queen Elizabeth II and so many more, all focus on a contrast. Annie places the subject in a bare room (practically a blank canvas, so there is no distraction) where there is little light and uses the available light to contrast the blacks and whites, enhancing the focus i.e. the person.

In other cases she will use spot lights to highlight the detail and the subject. Throughout her work she utilises light, to corner the attention on the subject and engage the viewer.

Annie manages to take find and shot a new perspective of her subject and capture their essence. Nicole Kidman reveals her glamour and elegance, all as a result of the light and angle in the photograph. Queen Elizabeth II, approaching this task is risky but Annie captured her grace and power with inspiring technique.

Possibly my favourite image from the exhibition, William S.Burroughs in his garage, Lawrence, Kansas 1995, it is almost as if we as the onlooker can star into his soul. The contrast of his face from the darkness of the back ground bring out all the lines in his ageing face. The pair of photographs are beautiful in every aspect to me.

Her spectacular landscapes animate passion within the onlooker, the depth of field is sensational and confronts the viewer with the beauty nature can offer. She has traveled to a number of phenomenal places worldwide and taken remarkable stills, sometimes calling on shutter to allow for a satin effect on water seen in Venice 1995.

She also incorporates her contrasting technique to her landscapes, encountered in Sams point preserve, Ellenville, New York, 1999.
Annie also shot some amazing photos of famous buildings, including the Guggenheim Museum in Spain 1997, the wide angle photograph unearths the amazing architectural design.

Furthermore, Annie stretches her boundaries in tackling the massacre in Rwanda and violent scenes that she encountered. These horrific images share what words cannot tell, they portray a mood that is terrifying and astounding. Her contrasting method is again prevalent, highlighting the tragedy.

The exhibition showcases her life and her sensational work, she has had amazing opportunities and taken amazing images.
