Week 13

Progress on last Assessment.
Choose a social issue and produce a t-shirt with a symbol that brings awareness to the chosen social issue.

I have researched many different social issues, sketched up different ideas for each, and after a long process I have settled upon HOMELESSNESS.

Defined as; the state or condition of having no home (especially the state of living in the streets).
It is a huge issue within Australia. 105,000 Australians are homeless on any given night. This issue carries implications of belonging nowhere, rather than simply having nowhere to sleep. This ranges from complete lack of shelter to severely inadequate housing conditions. Homelessness has significant emotional, social and psychological dimensions and this is what I was focusing on with my sketches. It seems that the proper housing is 'out-of-bounds' or 'locked-away'. I looked into house shapes, locks, keys and key holes to get my message across in the most effective way.
I have settled on this idea showcasing a house that is locked and the only way in is the keys that are obtained if the person using them has those things. That is; relationships, finance, safety, security, love and belonging. The viewer has to look closely to make out the words, it is mirroring life where many are not aware of the facts because they aren't always in your face, sometimes you have to look deeper.

Imagine this on a t-shirt.
